Stepfather gets 30 years jail in POCSO case

Shillong, Sept 1: A man convicted of sexually assaulting his minor stepdaughter has been sentenced to 30 years rigorous imprisonment by the Special POCSO Court in Shillong.

According to police, the FIR was filed on December 7, 2020 at Mawngap police station leading to the arrest of the accused.

The case was investigated by WPSI L. Kharjana of Women PS.

On August 28, Special Judge (POCSO) MK Lyngdoh found him guilty in Special POCSO Case No. 06 of 2021 arising from Mawngap PS Case No. 49(12)2020.

The court sentenced him to 20 years imprisonment for offence under Section 4 of POCSO Act, 30 years RI for offence under Section 6, 5 years for offence under Section 8 and 7 years for offence under Section 10, along with fines totalling Rs 1 lakh.

Police said the convict has already served 3 years, 11 months and 16 days, and will have to serve another 26 years and 2 days in jail.
