Shillong, Jan 12: The 41st National Youth Day commemorating the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was observed at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre Shillong on Sunday.
Addressing the programme, Ramakrishna Mission Shillong secretary Swami Hitakamanandaji emphasised the importance of “man-making and character-building education” as envisioned by Swami Vivekananda.
He elaborated on Swami Vivekananda’s quote, “Purity, patience, and perseverance are the three essentials to success, and above all, love,” highlighting the significance of cultivating these virtues in everyday life.
Swami Hitakamananda also urged the youth to internalize these values and strive for excellence in all their endeavours.
Dignitaries from Nehru Yuva Kendra and other monks also attended the programme.
Earlier, the programme started with a Khasi rendition dedicated to Swamiji by the students of Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home.
Vivekananda Cultural Centre director Swami Vedeshananda elaborated on the time spent by Swami Vivekananda’s in Shillong and other aspects of his life.
The cultural performances by students of Sanskriti and Vivekananda Youth Forum include songs, yoga demonstration, and Geeti Alekhya, an artistic presentation on Swamiji’s life with soulful songs.
In his heartfelt address, Ramakrishna Mission Shillong assistant secretary Swami Divyaswarupanandaji urged the youth to draw inspiration from the words and teachings of Swami Vivekananda and actively contribute to the nation-building process.
