Tura, Oct 19: The 42nd Meghalaya State Table Tennis Championship 2025 concluded on Saturday evening with a series of thrilling finals that brought the four-day sporting extravaganza to an exciting close at the Indoor Sports Hall, Tura.
The championship, organized by the Tura Table Tennis Association (TTTA) under the aegis of the Meghalaya Table Tennis Association (MTTA), showcased the state’s finest paddlers and served as an important platform for the National Games and National School Games selections. This year marked the fifth occasion that Tura has proudly hosted the prestigious state-level event.
More than 100 players from Nongstoin, Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh, Tura, and Baghmara competed in various categories, representing the districts of East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, South Garo Hills, and West Garo Hills.
In the Women’s Singles Final, Tanushree Das Gupta claimed the top honour with a commanding performance, earning the Gold Medal, while Camelia Diengdoh secured Silver, and Anweshwa Chaudhary took home the Bronze.
The Men’s Singles Final saw a spectacular contest between Shillong’s top seed Suranjit Dey and Sandeep Kumar. Dey successfully defended his state title with a composed display of skill and precision, while Kumar put up a strong fight to settle for Silver. Pritvi Dey earned the Bronze Medal.
The championship also celebrated upcoming talents with special recognitions. Saachi Mizar, the U-11 Girls Gold Winner, was named the Most Promising Girl Player, while Shivansh Pariyar, the U-11 Boys Gold Winner, received the Most Promising Boy Player Award, reflecting their potential to shine for Meghalaya in national-level competitions.
The Chief Guest, Arbinstone B. Marak, MLA of 48-Selsella Assembly Constituency, graced the closing ceremony and presented medals and trophies to the winners. Other distinguished guests included T.D. Marak, Retd. Principal, Tura Government College; J.P. Marak, Retd. Deputy Director, Sports & Youth Affairs; R.T.G. Momin, MPS; and D.B.G. Momin, ADC, Ampati.
