Unidentified body of female recovered in Mahendraganj region

Ampati, August 21: The  body of an unidentified woman, estimated to be aged between 60 and 70 years, was recovered from the muddy waters of a stream at Kukurmua under Mahendraganj Police Station in South West Garo Hills district on Friday.

Acting on information received from the public, a police team led by WPSI A. A. Marak, along with UBSI E. R. Marak and other staff, rushed to the spot. A Crime Scene Unit and Forensic Team also reached the site and carried out the necessary examination, following which an inquest was conducted in the presence of the forensic team and local witnesses.

Investigators recovered a nighty suspected to belong to the deceased, along with a pair of ladies’ slippers, near the site. Water samples were also collected and preserved for forensic examination.

Despite enquiries in the surrounding area, police were unable to establish the identity of the deceased.

The body has since been sent to Ampati for post-mortem examination and is currently kept at the DM&HO, Ampati Morgue. Police said efforts to trace the woman’s identity are continuing, but no one has yet come forward to claim the body.

According to police description, the deceased is a woman aged approximately 60 to 70 years, about 5 feet tall, with a dark/swarthy complexion, an oval face, long black-and-grey hair, and a medium build. Her address and identity remain unknown at this time.

Police have appealed to the public, requesting anyone with information that could help identify the deceased to come forward and contact Mahendraganj Police Station, South West Garo Hills, at the earliest.
