Shillong, Apr 15: The state government has assured that there would be no railway project in Khasi-Jaintia region without taking all stakeholders on board to express their views on the issue.
“Don’t worry, there will be no rail project until and unless everybody is on board. We always work for the people,” deputy chief minister in-charge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar told reporters on Monday.
Making it clear that chief minister Conrad K Sangma is yet to call the meeting of an all-party committee constituted to discuss the issue, he said the committee will all include stakeholders.
“We will discuss nicely and we will listen to them,” he said.

The state government constituted the all-party committee on April 3 to discuss the issue of railway connectivity in Khasi-Jaintia Hills.
Garo Hills was already included in the railway map of the country as the Mendipathar-Dudhnoi (Assam) railway line was launched in 2014 by prime minister Narendra Modi.
As per the terms of reference of the all-party committee, it has been asked to examine and find solutions, ways and means to bring about the introduction and construction of railways in the state.
The committee will also assess the cost benefit analysis of introduction of railways in the state. It will seek views of all stakeholders and accordingly submit the recommendation to the state government.
