Shillong, Sept 16: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Tuesday approved the one-time regularisation of 11 Lady Supervisors in the Social Welfare Department following directions of the Supreme Court, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said.
The Chief Minister said the matter had initially been decided by the Meghalaya High Court and was subsequently challenged by the state government before the Division Bench and, later, the Supreme Court.
Sangma said the Supreme Court directed the government to regularise the employees as a one-time measure, while making it clear that the order should not be treated as a precedent.
“The Apex Court has given an order for one-time regularisation. The order specifically mentions that it should not be followed as a precedent and is applicable only for this particular case,” he said after chairing the Cabinet meeting.
The Cabinet accordingly approved the regularisation of the 11 Lady Supervisors, he said.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the decision is specific to the present case and will not create a precedent for similar claims in the future.
