Shillong, Sept 16: The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved a uniform superannuation age of 60 years for Regular Casual Workers (RCWs), Casual Workers and Muster Roll workers, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Tuesday.
Sangma said the government will make a consequential amendment to the Meghalaya Regular Casual Workers Scheme, 1996, to implement the decision.
The move is aimed at bringing uniformity in the retirement age of different categories of casual workers. Earlier, Muster Roll workers could continue up to the age of 65 years, while the retirement age for Regular Casual Workers was 58 years.
The Chief Minister said the government decided to fix the common retirement age at 60, taking into account the fact that these categories of workers are not entitled to pension benefits.
Sangma also said transitional cases would be examined separately. This includes Muster Roll workers aged 63 and 64 years who had given up their Regular Casual Worker status to continue working until the age of 65.
Such cases will be considered by the respective departments on a case-to-case basis, he said.
