80th Independence Day Celebrated in Dadenggre, Raksamgre and Jengjal

Tura, Aug 16: Dadenggre, holding the distinction of being the first and oldest civil sub-division of Garo Hills, once again became a focal point of patriotic celebration as the nation marked its 80th Independence Day.

The historic town, along with Raksamgre and Jengjal civil sub-divisions, came together in a spirited display of national pride, cultural heritage, and community recognition.

The main celebration in Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division was held at the Dadenggre Playground, where Jim M Sangma, MLA of Rongjeng Assembly Constituency, hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute. The salute was presented by 11 marching contingents, including the 2nd MLP Battalion, Goeragre, and Scouts and Guides units from Little Flower Secondary School, Puri Government Secondary School, Dilsigre RMSA Secondary School, and Bethel Secondary School, among others.

The occasion was graced by Rupa M Marak, MLA of Dadenggre Assembly Constituency, along with Sub-Divisional Officer C Awasthi, other Sub-Divisional Officers, teachers, students, and members of the public.

The celebrations were enriched by vibrant cultural performances from area schools, depicting India’s rich cultural heritage. Prizes were distributed to the winners of Essay and Painting competitions held in the run-up to the event.

The Chief Guest presented Certificates of Appreciation to employees recognised for outstanding service, including:

Hanib B Sangma, Home Guard Volunteer, for exceptional bravery in law-and-order duty,

Ronin D Marak, for sincere commitment to duty,

Rakrak A Sangma, for dedicated service.

Police personnel from Rajabala Police Station were also honoured for their contributions:

UBC/399 Riksang M Sangma — dedicated service

UBC/118 Jingjang B Marak — commendable assistance in criminal cases

UBC/186 Jimsford K Marak — contribution to investigative teams

UBC/724 Shamlestone Marwein — exemplary discipline in CCTNS and sentry duties

UBC/436 Miman A Sangma — dedication in beat, PCR/CCTV and general station duties

Rimnang B Marak — outstanding performance in achieving 100 percent e-KYC coverage for NFSA beneficiaries.

In a proud sporting moment, Bonkame Lansa B Marak was felicitated for her outstanding achievement in football, having been selected for goalkeeping trials as the only player from West Garo Hills.

Adding further colour to the day were stalls, a performance by MGMP, indigenous games such as Wapong Sika and An’ding O’ka, an exhibition football match between Dadenggre Sub-Division and the Block Office, and food stalls that drew large crowds.

Both, chief guest Jim M Sangma and guest of honour Rupa Marak, also participated at the music venue presenting a number to the audience.

In Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division, celebrations were held at Matchokgre Playground, Raksamgre, with Limison D Sangma, MLA of Raksamgre Assembly Constituency, as Chief Guest. He took the Rashtriya Salute presented by 19 marching contingents.

In Jengjal Civil Sub-Division, Rupert M Momin, MLA of Kharkutta Assembly Constituency, hoisted the National Tricolor at Jengjal Playground, Jengjal, in the presence of 16 marching contingents.
