GUWAHATI, Sept 14: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government will transfer 32 cases related to an online trading scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an impartial probe.
Speaking to reporters after a cabinet meeting in Guwahati, Sarma revealed that he had discussed the transfer with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a recent visit to Delhi, and Shah had given his consent. Additionally, the Chief Secretary of Assam has coordinated with the CBI Director regarding the handover.
Sarma noted that the process of transferring the cases to the CBI would take about 10 to 12 days, pending a notification from the Department of Personnel and Training (DOPT). Until then, Assam Police will continue to oversee the investigation.
The cabinet has approved the regularization of 4,669 contractual teachers who were appointed during the previous Congress government.
Sarma announced that the Education Department will invite applications for the regularization of these posts within the next 10 days. After reviewing the applications and scrutinizing the necessary documents, the teachers’ positions will be made permanent.
The Cabinet further approved the inclusion of 12.60 lakh new beneficiaries in the Orunudoi Scheme. The process for enrolling these beneficiaries will start on September 19 and is expected to be completed by January 10.
Sarma announced that the first installment for the new Orunudoi beneficiaries will be disbursed by January 10.
To ensure broad outreach and transparency, the government will hold meetings in all 126 assembly constituencies, with the scheme’s launch being announced at a press conference in Guwahati. Opposition members will also be invited to these meetings.
Additionally, the government will begin issuing 17 lakh new ration cards from September 19, aiming to improve access to essential supplies for residents.
Under the Chief Minister’s Asom Atmanirbhorsil Achoni, Rs 2 lakh will be provided to each of 25,278 unemployed youths on November 3.
Sarma explained that out of the Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1 lakh will be a non-refundable grant, while the remaining Rs 1 lakh will need to be repaid in small instalments over a five-year period.
On the same day, the government will also start accepting applications from 75,000 youths for this program.
The Cabinet also approved Rs 107 crore for the construction of a new stadium in Kokrajhar and Rs 111 crore for the development of a flyover at Sixmile.
“The Cabinet further approved Rs 3,652 crore for the improvement of infrastructure at the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden. This funding will be distributed in two instalments, with Rs 170 crore allocated as the first instalment,” the Chief Minister said.
The Assam Cabinet has approved the establishment of a Centre of Excellence at Assam Engineering College (AEC) in Guwahati, focusing on training in aviation, space, and defence. This centre will be connected with 50 other colleges to expand its reach and impact.
The project will see an investment of Rs 240 crore, with Rs 200 crore coming from Dassault and Rs 40 crore from the state government. This initiative aims to enhance technical education and provide specialized training in these critical fields, contributing to the development of skilled professionals in Assam.
