Chutwakhu celebrates 100 years pioneering youth and women’s leadership

Jowai, Jan 11: Chutwakhu marked a century of resilience, progress, and community spirit with a grand celebration blending tradition and a forward-looking vision. The event, graced by Deputy Chief Minister Snaiwbhalang Dhar, MLAs Wailadmiki Shylla and Lahkmen Rymbui, and local leaders, stood as a testament to the transformative power of collective action.

In his address, the Chief Minister lauded Chutwakhu’s progressive strides, particularly its pioneering embrace of women’s leadership as early as 1931. “Chutwakhu stands out as a community ahead of its time, encouraging women and youth to actively shape their future,” he said. By 1934, the locality had become a hub for youth organizations, fostering a collaborative and innovative spirit that endures to this day.

As Meghalaya gears up to host the Meghalaya Games in Jowai, Sangma praised the community’s pivotal role in the event, calling it a “historic moment” for the district. He emphasized that investments in sports infrastructure are investments in the state’s future, symbolized by his distribution of ₹21 Lakhs to 21 local sports clubs and associations. “This is not just financial aid; it is our commitment to empowering grassroots organizations and nurturing young talent,” he affirmed.

Deputy Chief Minister Dhar echoed these sentiments, hailing the Centenary Jubilee as a moment of pride for all of Meghalaya. “Chutwakhu’s achievements set a benchmark for others, demonstrating how vision and dedication can propel communities to great heights,” he remarked.

Chutwakhu’s celebration was not just a reflection of its rich past but also a powerful reminder of its enduring legacy and future promise.
