Dhar urges Jaintia Hills voters to ensure ‘double-engine’ Govt

Shillong, Feb 13: NPP national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has urged the voters of Jaintia Hills region to cast their franchise in favour of the party to ensure a “double engine” government.

Addressing a campaign rally of JHADC election contestant two-time MDC Phasmon Dkhar from Musniang-Rangad constituency on Thursday, Dhar said, “I urge the people to vote for him if you want a double engine government.”

“During election, other political parties will come and make big promises but you should remember that the NPP is a party that engages in only 2% talk but 98% work,” he said in the campaign at Iongkaluh village.

On allegations of “dictatorship” by opposition, the deputy chief minister said, “If we are really doing so, why should we pump in crores of rupees for development in a constituency like Khliehriat represented by an UDP MLA.”

“I also take this opportunity to appeal to all the people not to waste their vote based on ‘good election songs’, but to cast their vote for development,” he said.

Dhar also predicted that the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) would not cross single digit in the upcoming autonomous district council (ADC) elections to be held on February 21.

“This time I don’t think that they can win more than 6 seats,” he said.

Addressing the meeting, Phasmon Dkhar said, “There are still many issues that I need to take care if elected.”
