Restaurant staff arrested for murder of female co-worker

Shillong, Feb 28: A restaurant employee was arrested by city police on Friday for allegedly killing a female co-worker, with whom he allegedly had an affair.

The victim, Damonica Laloo (41) of Lawsohtun, who was working as a cleaner in Trattoria Restaurant at Lachumiere was suspected to be murdered in the ground floor of the restaurant.

“Based on evidence collected with the help of FSL and CSU teams and preliminary interrogation, the investigating team swiftly zeroed upon the accused, Sunai Singh (42),” East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem said in a statement.

Singh has confessed about the crime during police interrogation, the SP said, adding that an argument between them after consuming alcohol on Thursday night led to the heinous crime.

He then tried to conceal the body beside the transformer of nearby KJP Assembly Conference Centre.

“The murder weapon, a hollow iron pipe, has been recovered and seized,” the SP said.

The body was sent to NEIGRIHMS for post-mortem.
