Shillong, Nov 3: The UDP’s withdrawal of support to MDA-II government will not affect the government, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said on Tuesday, citing the ruling NPP now having 36 MLAs in its fold.
“I have just come to know about it (withdrawal of support) now. How will it affect us? Right now we have 36,” Tynsong told reporters on the impact of the withdrawal of support by UDP.
However, he said, the NPP wants to continue working with the UDP in the future.
“Our commitment to continue working together remains. It may not be just for now, it is even beyond 2028…,” he said hours after the UDP in its CEC meeting unanimously decided to withdraw its support to the government.
Earlier, UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh stepped down as Cabinet Minister, following the party of 12 MLAs reduced to just one, himself, in a couple of months.
Denying allegations that the NPP had driven the UDP out of the MDA-II government, he said, “…it is not that we drove them away. If they leave, what can we say?”
