KHADC tables Rs 34-cr vote on account for 3 months

Shillong, Mar 26: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), which had its new executive council (EC) in place following the recent ADC elections, on Wednesday tabled a Rs 34.44-crore vote on account for next three months.

The full budget of the Council will be tabled in the next session of the House, said KHADC executive member (EM) in-charge Finance Seiborlang Warbah said after tabling the vote on account on the first day of the budget session.

The vote on account, with effect from April 1 to June 30 this year, will allow respective members in-charge to defray several charges which will come in the course of payment during the period, he said.

The vote on account will take care of disbursement of salaries of the new members of district council (MDCs), officers and staff of the different departments (executive, legislative and judicial) including pensioners.

The amounts allotted to different departments of KHADC are: General Administration – Rs 8.52 crore, Law – Rs 17.66 lakh, Revenue Budget & Finance – Rs 2.65 crore, Forest – Rs 2.57 crore, Administration of Justice & Judicial – Rs 1.71 crore, Legislative – Rs 2.28 crore, Education – Rs 3.88 lakh, Civil Works & Development – Rs 15.83 crore, and Enforcement Scheme for Protection of Tribal Land & Interest – Rs 1.67 crore.

Meanwhile, Warbah said the EC wants the Council to set a good example by bringing good and corruption-free governance as per the Constitution of India.

“The EC also seeks to bring a new system of working to improve the functioning of the Council,” he added.
