Shillong, May 8: A total of 22 colleges have applied for affiliation with the Captain Williamson Sangma State University.

Informing this on Tuesday, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma said, “The process is on to affiliate these 22 colleges with the State University.” According to him, students seeking admission in these colleges will not be required to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) examination.

He, however, said over 50 out of 70 plus colleges in the state are still affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and students seeking admissions in such colleges will have to appear for CUET examination.

The minister further said that CUET is not a big issue anymore unlike the previous years as there were no examination centres in the state. “I am confident that our students are well prepared to appear for the CUET examination.”

Additionally, Sangma said that new academic sessions for the undergraduate courses will start from July-August. He also informed that students are not facing admission problems.

“Two weeks back I had a meeting on the same issue in Tura. The Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary informed that they are not getting the students. The shortage is more than 150 students short of filling their intake capacity,” the minister said.
