2 HNLC cadres surrender after 15 months with outfit

Shillong, June 28: Disillusioned with the proscribed HNLC’s stated goal, two newly joined cadres of the outfit have surrendered to police in Eastern West Khasi Hills.

Dibarius Jyrwa (32) and Ridor Lyngdoh Nonglait (30), who had been with Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) in Bangladesh, said they joined the outfit after being misguided by Samuel Wahlang Pahsyntiew, who was allegedly involved in an IED blast at Shillong Syndicate Bus.

The duo claimed that they crossed over Bangladesh with Pahsyntiew to join the HNLC, according to the SP of Eastern West Khasi Hills.

In their stay with HNLC for over 15 months, they were asked to perform menial tasks, including cultivation, which they felt were unrelated to HNLC’s stated objectives.

Disillusioned, they escaped from Bangladesh on June 20 with the intention of returning to mainstream society and regretted joining the proscribed HNLC, the SP said.

The police recorded their statements and kept them in a secure location pending further necessary action, the SP added.
