‘Govt depts working to achieve CM’s goal to transform Meghalaya into ₹90,000-cr
Shillong, July 5: The state government has a lot of expectations from CM FARM+ programme to transform the state’s agriculture economy. The government emphasis on the scheme was evident from cabinet minister Marcuise N Marak, who was on a visit to Garo Hills on Saturday.
The programme aims at doubling farmers’ income by promoting high-value crop cultivation and increasing productivity through hands-on training and modern agricultural practices, Marak said while addressing a CM FARM+ programme at Ganingbibra under Samanda C&RD Block in East Garo Hills on Saturday.
“This initiative is not just about distributing seeds — it’s about empowering our farmers, expanding cultivation, and bringing prosperity to every household. When farmers succeed, the state succeeds,” said Marak, who is also a local MLA from Williamnagar constituency.
Lauding chief minister Conrad K Sangma’s vision for Meghalaya, Marak said the former set an ambitious goal to transform Meghalaya into a ₹90,000-crore ($10 billion) economy.
All departments of the government are working to achieve the target, he said.
“Our Chief Minister has a clear vision for the state—to place Meghalaya among the top ten states in the country. Since the day he was given the mandate, he has been tirelessly working towards this goal, directing all departments to align their efforts,” he said.
Under CM FARM+, farmers are empowered by providing quality planting materials such as cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper, alongside farm inputs, training, and financial support.
“These seeds being distributed are of the best quality. When they grow and start bearing produce, farmers will be able to sell them for a good income. This will not only uplift individual families but also contribute to the state’s economy. As farmers grow, the government also grows,” he stated.
The minister said the government’s development strategy is holistic—touching every sector including horticulture, road infrastructure (PWD), water supply (PHE), education, tourism, and conservation.
Highlighting recent administrative reforms, Marak mentioned inauguration of the Additional Secretariat in Tura, and said it is a major step in decentralising governance. “There was a time when people had to travel all the way to Shillong even for minor works. The new Secretariat will house offices for ministers and facilitate cabinet meetings, making governance more accessible to the people of Garo Hills,” he said.
He also shared that new IAS officers had inquired about possible postings in the new facility—an indication of long-term administrative planning.
The event witnessed participation from farmers, officials from the horticulture department, and local community members, many of whom expressed optimism about the opportunities brought by CM FARM+.
