Govt urges truckers to withdraw protest

Shillong, Nov 7: The state government has appealed to the Meghalaya Commercial Truck Owners and Drivers Association (MCTODA), which is on strike and allegedly blocking truck movements, to resolve the resolve the ongoing dispute through discussion.

“From the government, we requested them to withdraw the agitational programme and instead (of agitating) come to the table for discussion,” Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said while referring to a meeting between Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and MCTODA on the issue.

He said the government is awaiting a decision from MCTODA regarding the withdrawal of the agitation, Tynsong said.

Asked about the arrested MCTODA leaders, Tynsong said the law will take its own course.

“…we would request all of them to call off the agitational programmes and make sure traffic movement goes smoothly as usual,” he added.
