Shillong, Nov 13: The raids conducted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in parts of South Garo Hills are linked to the broader investigation into the recent bomb blast in New Delhi, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Thursday.
Refusing to divulge specific locations, Sangma said, “The information we have received indicates raids are taking place at multiple locations. The NIA is trying to gather details, and it is an ongoing investigation.”
It would be incorrect to discuss specifics due to the sensitive nature of national security, he said while ensuring full cooperation from the state government to the exercise.
“We are here to cooperate with them in every way possible, providing whatever help and support is needed. The matter is sensitive, and we will refrain from going into details.”
Asked on any such exercise taking place in Shillong, Sangma said the situation is “completely different” and limited to background checks, adding there is “no cause for alarm”.
He also dismissed any specific alert for Meghalaya, noting it is simply part of the investigation process.
“The investigations are ongoing, and I will not comment beyond what is necessary to protect national security. There is nothing to worry about; it is part of the investigation,” he said.
