Meghalaya’s Wallambok elected to Indian Mountaineering Foundation GC

Shillong, Nov 16: General secretary of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) Wallambok Lyngdoh has been elected as a member of the Governing Council (GC) of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).

The election took place on November 14, 2025 during the 61st Annual General Body Meeting held at the IMF Campus, New Delhi.

The IMF, the apex body regulating mountaineering and allied adventure sports in India, operates under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and oversees sport climbing at national and international levels, including events such as the Asian Games and the Olympics. It is also affiliated with the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).

A total of 16 eminent mountaineers contested the election, from which 11 members were elected to the GC.

The newly formed council will serve a two‑year term alongside the newly elected President, Col. Vijay Singh, VSM (Retired).

Members elected to the GC for the term 2025–2027 include Prem Singh (Retired IG, ITBP), Debraj Dutta (Kolkata), Wallambok Lyngdoh (Meghalaya), Col. Anand Swaroop (Retired), Harbhajan Singh (Retired IG, ITBP), M.R. Vijayraghavan (Karnataka), K. Saraswati (Maharashtra), Yambem Laba (Manipur), Debabrata Mukherjee (Kolkata), Keerthi Pais (Karnataka) and Group Captain R.C. Tripathi, VM (G) (Retired).

MeSCMA said the association will benefit significantly from Lyngdoh’s representation, which will enhance the promotion of mountaineering and sport climbing at both state and national levels. His inclusion is also expected to strengthen the visibility and representation of the North‑East region on national adventure‑sports platforms, it added.
