Meghalaya govt clears July salaries for VB-GRAM, VB-REGLMS staff

Transition from MGNREGA causes delays; pending dues under process

Shillong, Aug 4: The Meghalaya government has announced the release of July salaries for VB-GRAM and VB-REGLMS staff, bringing relief to employees affected by the transition from MGNREGA.

According to a statement issued by the State Rural Employment Society (SRES), the salaries will be disbursed within the next two days and that sanctions for the administrative component have been received from the Ministry of Rural Development.

The arrangement will continue from July 2026 onwards.

SRES Mission Director, Sibhi Chakravarthy Sadhu said the state faced certain issues in clearing salaries, TA/DA and other administrative payments after MGNREGA was repealed and VB-GRAM/VB-REGLMS were rolled out in Meghalaya.

Addressing pending dues, Sadhu stated that the department is in touch with the MoRD for the “expeditious release of all salary, TA/DA and other administrative components due till 30th June 2026” for staff yet to receive payments for April-June or May-June 2026.

He added that if central sanctions are further delayed, “some relief will be provided through the State’s resources,” similar to what was done in 2025 when “the salaries of staff for 1-2 months were also made as interim arrangements through the State’s resources.”

The statement clarified that “All salaries are cleared till March 2026 and in some Districts till April 2026 and for the remaining months, all efforts are being done to ensure that the dues are settled.”

The clarification comes as VB-GRAM and VB-REGLMS replace MGNREGA in the state, with the government seeking to streamline payments and administrative processes for rural employment staff.
