Shillong, Nov 21: The state government will be hosting the Regional AI Impact Conference on December 3 at the State Convention Centre, Shillong as part of a national series leading to the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.
The event will be held in collaboration with the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology with IIM Shillong being selected as the Knowledge Partner for the event. The state Information Technology & Communications Department is the nodal department to host the conference.
Themed “AI for CE (Artificial Intelligence for Citizens’ Empowerment): Smarter Governance, Better Lives,” the event will bring together senior government officials, industry leaders, global technology firms, academic institutions, and startups to deliberate on the transformative role of AI in climate resilience, effective governance, and building safer and more equitable societies.
There will also be a session by IndiaAI Mission team to showcase various AI-related initiatives taken by the Centre. Along with these sessions, there will be parallel sessions in the Showcase Arena, which will provide a stage to various stakeholders to showcase AI initiatives & innovations, ideation and brainstorming sessions, and networking among like-minded individuals/organisations. The Union Minister from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and senior officers from Central Ministries and Northeastern states are expected to join this mega event.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will take part as the chief guest. This event will also witness the ceremonial launches of Bhashini Hackathon (Garo & Khasi language), the launch of MeghDEE program, the signing of MoU for setting up Data & AI Lab, and the Signing of MoU with MATH T-Hub.
The chief minister, who also heads the state Information Technology & Communications Department, is set to make major policy announcements during the Conference projecting Meghalaya as the AI regional trailblazer and powerhouse of technology-driven innovations .
The Conference will also feature a roundtable meeting between the Chief Minister and leading investors, aimed at positioning Meghalaya as an emerging digital and innovation hub for Eastern India.
There will be an Exhibition at the same venue, which will showcase and display various AI and related Emerging Technology Initiatives by various Government Organisations, Industry Partners and Research and academic institutions.
“As run-up to the 3rd December event, a few pre-event campaigns through academic institutions like IIM Shillong, NIT Meghalaya and NIELIT, Shillong have already started to bring awareness on AI among the student community and create a buzz around the Regional event at Shillong”, said Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary, IT&C Department.
This landmark Conference is expected to generate actionable insights and policy recommendations for the India–AI Impact Summit 2026.
