Police continue search for 2 accused in IED attack

Shillong, Jan 6: State police are in the look out of two persons, suspected to be involved in the IED attack on Dhar Construction Company at Shymplong in East Jaintia Hills district.

“We are trying to locate the two persons who are absconding,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikash Kumar said on Tuesday.

They have been identified as Smiki Tongper of Shymplong and Issei Sungoh, an HNLC cadre from Khliehriat, both wanted in separate criminal cases.

While Tongper is wanted accused in a case registered under the POCSO Act, Sungoh is wanted for an IED blast at the police reserve in Khliehriat and other illegal activities.

The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has already claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it had targeted the property belonging to Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar after an alleged extortion refusal.

The blast on December 15 last year damaged a water tanker but caused no injuries.

Police have already arrested Richard Suchen (31) and Pynshaitbor Syih (45) for their involvement in the IED attack.
