1 lakh students to get CM’s Scholarship on March 6

Shillong, Feb 26: The Chief Minister’s Scholarship will be released to over one lakh students on March 6, marking completion of eight years of the incumbent Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.

Making the significant announcement during budget discussion in the assembly on Wednesday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “In fact, on March 6 the MDA government will be completing 8 years in government… it is a proud moment for us that for 8 years the people of the state have given us the opportunity to serve them.”

“Therefore, to mark that anniversary or 8 years of completion of service to the state and to the people of the state, as part of our programme we will be releasing the CM’s Scholarship to over one lakh students on March 6,” he added.

Sangma also highlighted the government’s efforts to support students, particularly in rural areas, by providing guidebooks to improve pass percentages in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC).

Mentioning that how a child’s life is affected if he or she failed in class 10 exam, he said, “The child’s life is over before it even starts.”

He referred to the huge number of such affected children, saying “You are talking about 20,000 children not being able to pass class X… their lives will be spoiled.”

“This is not an IAS exam or MCS exam. They have the right to be able to move forward in life,” he said while mentioning the government’s decision to provide guidebooks to these students.

He cited prevalence of guidebooks across the country and the different scenario in the state, saying, “Our students in rural areas do not get this kind of support… hence we came up with guidebooks. I congratulate the education minister and the department for working on this; it’s the greatest blessing we are giving to these children.”
