Tura, March 13: The District Administration of West Garo Hills has extended the curfew in Tura and across the district, but has announced a six-hour relaxation on March 14 to allow essential public movement and normal activities.
According to an official order issued by the District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Aggarwal, the curfew imposed under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita has been extended from 6:00 AM on March 14 until 6:00 AM on March 15, unless withdrawn earlier.
However, authorities have allowed a temporary relaxation from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM on March 14, giving residents a six-hour window to step out for essential needs and routine activities.
The administration said the curfew was initially imposed following incidents of violence and disturbances to public peace in parts of the district, which posed threats to human life, public safety, and property. Officials stated that continuing preventive measures is necessary to restore normalcy and prevent further escalation.
During the curfew period, movement outside residences remains prohibited within the district, except during the relaxation hours. Law enforcement agencies and executive magistrates have been directed to strictly enforce the order.
Authorities also warned that any violation of the curfew will attract penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other relevant laws.
The order was issued on March 13 by the Office of the District Magistrate in Tura.
