Shillong, March 13: A mobile food processing unit, aimed at bringing value‑addition technology to farmers’ doorstep, was inaugurated by Governor CH Vijayashankar on Friday.
The truck‑mounted unit, Developed by Northeast Centre for Technology Application & Reach (NECTAR) with Mysuru’s CSIR‑CFTRI, can process local produce at farm sites.
Flagging off the unit, the governor said, “It has the potential to empower local communities… and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.”
He expressed confidence that such technology-driven interventions will play a vital role in accelerating inclusive development in the North Eastern region, supporting farmers, entrepreneurs and local producers through improved technology access.
NECTAR Director General Dr Arun Kumar Sarma said such initiatives are part of the agency’s effort to “leverage science and technology for the development of the North Eastern region” and boost livelihoods in backward areas.
CSIR‑CFTRI Director Dr Giridhar Parvatham stressed “scientific collaboration and technology‑driven solutions” for regional challenges.
