Shillong, April 14: National People’s Party (NPP) has leader James K Sangma has asserted that the party had done “extremely well” in the all the three constituencies contested by the party in the recent Assam assembly elections.
“…We are very confident that the NPP will be performing extremely well in all the three seats…,” Sangma told reporters on Tuesday.
However, the NPP leader termed “unfortunate” some incidents of violence, saying, “The campaign was extremely satisfying despite certain incidence of violence, which have been very unfortunate, especially in Haflong.”
Propagating further the party’s, “One North East” initiative, Sangma said the concept is already taking shape.
“Now if you look at Daniel Langthangsa, he had his own political party and he has come with us,” he said referring to the Dimasa leader’s People’s Party coming on board with NPP.
“That is all part of a larger narrative of the One NE campaign,” he said.
Underscoring the need for all regional voices coming together, he said, “It needs to have one political platform or a single voice, which will be able to represent the entire North East.”
He referred to One North East initiative getting momentum, saying, “Mr Kikon joining… who is a very senior leader from Nagaland… Daniel joining… these are all part and parcel of that movement.”
On the naming of the platform, the NPP leader said ideology matters more than nomenclature. “The name is not as important as the ideology or the thought behind it is,” he said.
He asserted that several other prominent and influential political leaders of the North East are eager to come under the “common umbrella” One North East.
