Shillong, April 24: UDP MLA from Mowkaiaw Nujorki Sungoh has called upon farmers of Jaintia Hills to avail skill training for taking up entrepreneurship ventures and help ensure sustainable livelihoods.
Addressing a capacity building programme at Wahiajer in West Jaintia Hills district, he reminded the farmers of their role in society, saying, “I urged them to utilize the knowledge and resources gained through the training programme in order to empower themselves and their family to face the challenge and transform towards entrepreneurs for their sustainable livelihood and to address employment issues for the benefit of the community at large.”
The programme “Skill Enhancement for Horticultural Development and Sustainability for Farmers of NEH Region” was organised for farmers of Laskein Block by Deen Dayal Upadhyay Community and College (DDUCC) for Skill Development, a constituent college of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), in collaboration with ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru.
He also complimented NEHU-DDUCC “for organizing such an extension programme and assured his support for the growth and development of its future endeavours.”
Around 250 members of the farming community attended the programme.
Prof. S Umdor, in his remarks, emphasized the importance of farming and the significant role they play in the society.
Shaniah Lamare delivered the welcome address, while Dr FR Sumer shared the mission and objectives of the extension programme.
MDC Wormanship Shadap and Prof. (Retd.) H. Lamin also spoke on the occasion.
