Meghalaya State Planning Board team to visit Games sites

Shillong, April 29: The Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB) will conduct visits to the sites for hosting the National Games next year before putting on paper its suggestions to the government even as it said the preparations are “on track”.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, MSPB chairman AT Mondal said the Board held a review meeting with Sports department but it remained inclusive as officials were preoccupied with a visiting central team.

Mondal said the Board discussed venues, events, infrastructure, and logistics for athletes and officials and that it would hold further meetings on the preparations.

Asked about the preparations, he said, “So far so good, things are going ahead…”

“They have given a conclusive details of the preparedness but we told them that we need to again sit and we will be visiting the sites also,” Mondal added.

Mondal also said monitoring has been done at multiple levels, including the Sports department, Chief Minister’s Office and MSPB.

On concerns over Shillong’s traffic during the Games, Mondal said, “Government has gone to vigorously create more parking spaces in and around the city and definitely this will decongest traffic snarls.”
