Idols, cash stolen from Hanuman temple in Shillong

Shillong, May 10: Idols and other valuables were allegedly looted from Hanuman Mandir at Garikhana here in the wee hours of Saturday.

Unknown miscreants broke into the temple premises after damaging a side entrance and stole idols, ornaments, ritual utensils and cash from the donation box, according to an FIR lodged at Lumdiengjri Police Station.

CCTV cameras installed inside and outside the temple were damaged, according to the FIR.

However, CCTV footage from a nearby house reportedly captured the movement of the suspects leaving the area.

Confederation of People’s Committee (CPC), Meghalaya strongly condemned the burglary and demanded immediate action against those responsible.

CPC Meghalaya president N Bhattacharjee urged the district administration and police to conduct a thorough investigations arrest the culprits at the earliest and ensure strict action as per law.
