Shillong, June 2: The Deputy Commissioner (Supply), East Khasi Hills District has refuted rumours and fake news circulating on social media about an alleged shortage and price hike of petrol and diesel in the district.
“The situation is being closely monitored by the District Administration, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the smooth availability and distribution of fuel and LPG across the district,” the DC said in a statement on Tuesday.
Citizens have been advised not to believe or circulate unverified information. “The public is requested to rely only on official Government communications and updates for accurate information,” the statement said.
The administration also urged residents to avoid panic buying or hoarding of essential fuel supplies, noting that such actions could disrupt normal distribution.
Issuing a stern warning, the district administration said, “Strict action will be taken against individuals found spreading false information, rumours, or misleading content that may create unnecessary panic among the public.”
