Construction of Tura Medical College almost 95% complete: Shylla
Shillong, June 12: The Shillong Medical College is still awaiting a date from the Prime Minister for inauguration while the infrastructure work of Tura Medical College is almost 95% complete, Health Minister Wailadmiki Shylla said on Friday.
Informing about cancellation of inauguration dates earlier, the minister said, “On two earlier occasions we had decided on dates, but later something else came up, so we had to cancel it.”
Meanwhile, the state government is in constant touch with the Prime Minister’s Office for getting the date at the earliest.
“We are still waiting for the date from the Prime Minister. Last time, I reminded the Union Health Minister during the inauguration of ARHI Hospital…,” Shylla said.
He expressed hope that a date of inauguration of the medical college by the Prime Minister will be locked in soon.
On the status of the Tura Medical College, Shylla said construction is nearly finished.
“Infrastructure is almost 95% complete, if you talk about the structural part. On the recruitment side, we have already floated advertisements for faculty posts,” he said.
However, the response from applicants has been lukewarm so far. “But we are still hopeful that we will get the faculty,” he added.
