Shillong, Jun 18: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will begin a two-day visit to Meghalaya on June 19, during which she will inaugurate the Northeast’s largest organic spice processing facility and unveil development projects worth Rs 1,200 crore, officials said on Thursday.
The finance minister will participate in a series of events across Ri Bhoi, East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills districts.
On the first day of her visit, Sitharaman will inaugurate the Northeast’s largest organic spice processing plant at Bhoirymbong in Ri Bhoi district.
The facility has been developed by the Eastern Ri Bhoi Organic Farmer Producer Company and is expected to boost value addition and market access for organic farmers in the region.
Later, she will attend a programme at the U Soso Tham Auditorium in Shillong marking the implementation of externally aided projects in Meghalaya. During the event, she will lay the foundation stone for EAP-funded projects worth Rs 1,200 crore.
She will also attend a seminar on ‘Leveraging Externally Aided Projects (EAPs) in the North-Eastern States’.
On June 20, Sitharaman will interact with students at Kiang Nangbah Government College in Jowai before inaugurating the Khliehtyrshi Primary Health Centre in West Jaintia Hills district. (PTI)
