Shillong, June 18: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has commissioned a 25 KWp off-grid rooftop solar plant in Mawlyndep village under its CSR programme, aimed at supporting aquaculture livelihoods in Ri Bhoi district.
The Rs 18.49 lakh project, titled “Supply, Installation and Commissioning of 25 KWp Solar Plant for Community Cluster-Based Intervention in Emerging Aquaculture Production and Post-Harvest Management”, was handed over on Thursday (June 18).
It is designed to provide clean, reliable power for post-harvest and production activities, cutting reliance on conventional energy while boosting output for local fish farmers.
Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Dr Abhishek Saini along with ADC & DRDA Project Director R Brahma, Fisheries Superintendent M Khongjliw, and POWERGRID NERTS DGM (HR) Tathagat, attended the handover ceremony.
Officials from DRDA, the Fisheries Department, POWERGRID, and village representatives were also present.
POWERGRID said the solar installation forms part of its broader push to expand renewable energy access in rural areas and strengthen community infrastructure through targeted CSR interventions.
