Shillong, July 6: The expansion work for Shillong Airport has been awarded to a contractor, but work is yet to begin on the ground, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar said on Monday.
Dhar said the state has now received all necessary clearances from the Centre to proceed with the project.
“The work has been awarded and the contractor is yet to start. That is the latest information as of today,” Dhar told reporters here.
“Working permission has been received from the Government of India. That is why we are able to float the tender for the expansion,” he said.Land
On whether land compensation for the airport expansion has been completed, the Deputy CM said the process was largely over, but additional land may be required.
“Yes, it has been done. Maybe some extra land is needed. We will discuss it at the government level,” Dhar said.
