Over 61 pc of SIR enumeration forms distributed in Meghalaya

South West Garo Hills leads with 88.36 per cent, reaching 1,08,883 electors

Shillong, July 9: Meghalaya has covered more than 61 per cent of its electorate under the Special Intensive Revision 2026, with the Election Commission’s door-to-door verification drive continuing across all 12 districts of the state.

According to the status report released by the Chief Electoral Officer on Thursday morning, 14,43,818 enumeration forms have been distributed so far out of a total electorate of 23,49,645, accounting for 61.45 percent of the voters.

The remaining 9,05,827 electors, or 38.55 percent, are yet to receive their forms.

The exercise is being carried out by 3,551 Booth Level Officers, with each BLO handling an average of 407 forms.

The average number of electors per BLO in the state stands at 661.69.

Digitization of the collected forms has also commenced, with 1,98,307 EFs, or 8.44 percent of the total electorate, already entered into the system.

District-wise figures show considerable variation in progress.

South West Garo Hills has emerged as the front-runner with 88.36 percent of its 1,08,883 electors covered, followed by North Garo Hills at 77.96 percent and West Jaintia Hills at 72.16 percent.

East Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi have also crossed the 67 percent mark.

At the other end, East Jaintia Hills recorded the lowest coverage at 42.87 percent, with 44,764 of 1,04,417 electors having received forms.

East Khasi Hills, the state’s largest district with 6,32,146 electors, has reached 53 percent coverage, while West Garo Hills stands at 56.32 percent.

The other districts including South Garo Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hills are placed between 58 and 63 percent.

The report also highlights differences in digitization.

South West Khasi Hills leads with 17.88 percent of its forms digitized, followed by Eastern West Khasi Hills at 16.66 percent and South Garo Hills at 15.08 percent. West Jaintia Hills has the lowest digitization rate at 1.92 percent.

North Garo Hills reported the highest workload per BLO at 816.75 electors, while South West Khasi Hills had the lowest at 563.58.

South West Garo Hills BLOs distributed the highest average of 573 forms each, whereas East Jaintia Hills recorded the lowest average at 285 forms per BLO.

The CEO has urged citizens to cooperate with BLOs during the verification process and has made available the ECINET and Voter Helpline mobile applications for checking details and status.
