Shillong, Aug 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has welcomed Meghalaya taxi associations’ decision to temporarily call off their protest following a meeting with the state government convened by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
The development followed “constructive engagement and cooperation” among the government, taxi associations, officials and other stakeholders, the Chief Minister said.
He said the government would continue working with all concerned parties to ensure normal movement, commuter safety and a peaceful resolution to issues arising from the recent Meghalaya-Assam tensions.
The Chief Minister’s response comes after taxi associations agreed to resume normal movement between Meghalaya and Assam until September 10, when a joint meeting involving transport authorities and taxi representatives from both states is expected to address their grievances.
Sangma appealed to all sections to maintain peace, restraint and normalcy as efforts continue to resolve the inter-state transport dispute.
