UGC grants recognition to USTM

Shillong, July 29: The University of Science & Technology Meghalaya (USTM) on Wednesday announced that it has been granted recognition under Section 12(B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956.

USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque said, “The recognition under Section 12(B) by the University Grants Commission is a proud moment for the entire USTM family. It is a testament to our unwavering commitment to quality education, academic excellence, research, innovation, and nation-building. I congratulate every student, faculty member, staff, alumnus, and stakeholder who has contributed to this remarkable achievement.”

Vice Chancellor Prof. G. D. Sharma added, “This prestigious recognition reflects the University’s adherence to the highest standards of higher education. It will further strengthen our academic ecosystem by facilitating research collaborations, faculty development, and enhanced learning opportunities for our students.”

According to a press statement by the university, it said USTM has consistently focused on providing quality education, promoting cutting-edge research, fostering innovation, and creating an inclusive learning environment since its establishment in 2011. The university has earned national recognition through its academic achievements, research contributions, industry collaborations, and commitment to community development, it added.

The UGC 12(B) recognition enables the University to become eligible for various UGC-funded schemes, research grants, academic development programmes, faculty development initiatives, and collaborative projects, thereby enhancing opportunities for students, faculty members, and researchers.

The USTM is the first state private university in the field of Science and Technology in North East India and was accredited with an ‘A Grade’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council  in its first cycle of assessment in 2021, according to the release.
