5-day assembly session from Aug 24

Shillong, July 31: The Autumn Session of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly will be held from August 24 to 28, according to the session schedule finalised by assembly’s Business Advisory Committee (BAC).

The BAC meeting on Friday was attended by Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Parliamentary Affairs Prestone Tynsong, Leader of Opposition Mukul M. Sangma, Opposition Chief Whip Charles Pyngrope, Assembly Secretary Malthus S Sangma and other members.

“The BAC has unanimously agreed to the proposed calendar for the Autumn Session,” Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma told reporters.

The five-day session will have three days of government business and two days of private members’ business.

On concerns over the short duration, Sangma acknowledged time constraints but assured all members would get a chance to speak.

“Allotment of time is always an important issue. I will try my best to accommodate all members concerned and ensure that every member gets an opportunity to express their concerns on the floor of the House,” he said.
