Shillong, Aug 1: Authorities in East Khasi Hills have denied a media report claiming that a woman had to deliver her baby inside a vehicle due to poor road condition.
Although there was a delay in ferrying the woman in labour to the hospital due to poor roads, the woman actually delivered a healthy baby one hour after reaching the hospital.
According to a local news channel, the woman was forced to deliver in a vehicle during the July-31 public hearing in the district.
In a statement, Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills said an inquiry with the Block Medical & Health Officer, Saipung, and Sutnga CHC found the claim to be incorrect.
Riniwanki Sukhlain of Shnongrim village went into labour at 4:30 AM, according to the administration.
After an ANM assessed her at home, she was referred to Sutnga CHC.
She left at 8:30 AM in a CMSMS vehicle and faced a 45-minute delay due to poor road conditions.
With help from the headmen of Shnongrim and Lelad, another CMSMS vehicle was arranged and she reached the CHC at 10:15 AM.
She delivered a baby girl weighing 2.96 kg at 11:15 AM under medical supervision.
“Both mother and child are healthy and under the care of doctors and nurses at the CHC,” the DC’s office stated.
