One-month window to submit claims & objections before publication of final list
Shillong, Aug 5: Number of voters in the electoral roll of Meghalaya has declined by over 1.8 lakh after deletion of names under ASDD categories and over 9 per cent voters could not be mapped during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026.
The Election Department on Wednesday published the revised rolls following a verification drive across all the 60 assembly constituencies in the state.
The draft roll now contains 21,69,243 electors, down from 23,49,645 before the revision.
During the exercise, election officials identified 1,80,402 entries under the categories of deceased, shifted, untraceable and duplicate voters (ASDD).
Officials said the revision followed an extensive house-to-house verification, achieving 100% distribution and digitisation of enumeration forms covering all 23.49 lakh electors in the state.
The exercise also mapped 33.01% of electors directly to the 2005 electoral database, while 49.83% were linked through their parents or grandparents.
About 9.48% of voters could not be mapped and will undergo further verification during the claims and objections period.
The Election Department has opened a one-month claims and objections window from August 5 to September 4, allowing voters to check their names, seek corrections or apply for inclusion before the final electoral roll is published.
Electors can verify their details through the ECINET App, the Voters’ Service Portal, Booth Level Officers or Electoral Registration Officers.
In a move aimed at improving voter access, the Election Commission has also approved the creation of 86 new polling stations, taking the total number of polling stations in Meghalaya from 3,551 to 3637.
The Chief Electoral Officer appealed to voters, political parties and community institutions to participate actively in the verification process, saying the final electoral roll will be published on October 7 after all claims and objections are disposed of.
