Stakeholders urged to avoid any act that can create law-and-order problem
Shillong, Sept 10: The state government has defended police action against KSU leaders after the August-19 violence as Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said the government cannot remain silent when law and order is disrupted.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Tynsong responded to allegations of “random arrests” of KSU leaders, saying action is taken against illegal activities irrespective of the organisation or individuals involved.
“We have told them very clearly that any illegal activity cannot be appreciated at all, be it anybody. If you create a law-and-order situation, how can we just keep quiet? Irrespective of whether it is KSU or any NGO or any individual, from the police side, we are concerned about law and order,” Tynsong said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy CM appealed to all stakeholders to avoid actions that lead to law-and-order problems.
“We would like to request all stakeholders to stay away from illegal activities or from creating a situation that leads to law-and-order problem. This is the message I would like to send,” he added.
On the long-pending demand for setting up facilitation centres as mandated under the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), 2016, Tynsong said the process is moving forward.
“Very soon, a joint inspection will be conducted by the district administration in Umling. In fact, the State Government has already entrusted the Deputy Commissioner to carry out the joint inspection,” he said.
