Shillong, Sept 16: The MePDCL Testing Laboratory for Distribution Transformers was opened at Sumer on Monday, enabling the corporation to independently verify quality and performance of transformers before circulation.
Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh inaugurated the testing lab which will be used to test 11 kV/0.433 kV Distribution Transformers up to 500 kVA, and will cater primarily to newly procured transformers, including those under RDSS and other schemes, as well as repaired and refurbished transformers.
The minister lauded the efforts of MePDCL, REC Limited, CPRI and officers, engineers and technical personnel involved in establishing the facility. Lyngdoh urged MePDCL to complete the remaining requirements for NABL accreditation at the earliest and make optimum use of the facility to strengthen quality, reliability and efficiency of the state’s power distribution network.
Upon obtaining NABL accreditation, the laboratory also has the potential to offer commercial testing services to manufacturers, utilities and other organisations and develop into an important Distribution Transformer testing facility for the North East.
Developed at a total cost of about Rs 1.3 crore, the facility has been established with technical support and guidance from Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) and the facilitating support of REC Limited.
