National Games: ‘Let’s make athletes feel at home’

Shillong, Nov 5: The National Games 2027 will be the biggest event hosted by Meghalaya during its 54 years of statehood, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said on Wednesday.

“This is one of the biggest events that Meghalaya will host ever in the past 54 years and hence this is a very important moment for us. We are preparing from all angles,” the Chief Minister said while addressing inauguration of the District School Education Office-cum-Multilevel Car Park at Mawkhar and the Multilevel Car Park at Motphran.

He informed that the Indian Olympic Association’s organizing committee is in Shillong to discuss preparedness.

Calling for collective effort, the Chief Minister said, “This is not just a government’s event but it is a Meghalaya state’s event. Every citizen has a role to play, everybody has a contribution to make.”

He urged the people do their bit to make the athletes feel at home.

“Taking care of the athletes who are coming from outside, making them feel at home, making them realise the warmth of our culture and our hospitality, that is the contribution which each and everyone of us will make,” he said.

Sangma said the government is awaiting the Prime Minister’s dates for the Games, likely in March, and expressed confidence of making it memorable.

“I am very confident that we will do it well. We look forward to working with every citizen to make these games one of the most memorable ones,” he said.
