Ampati gears up for Mi Kari Festival

Shillong, Jan 28: A two-day Winter Festival – “Mi Kari” to showcase the rich cultural heritage and community spirit of South West Garo Hills will be held at Ampati on February 13 and 14.

The District Administration, South West Garo Hills, together with the Tourism Department and the Arts & Culture Department will be holding the event at the Students’ Field in Ampati which will bring together tradition, creativity, and festive joy under one platform.

The festival will feature a colourful array of events including indigenous games, traditional cooking competition, photography and painting competitions, flower show, healthy baby show, and talent show, among many others—ensuring engaging experiences for all age groups.

Adding to the festive charm, the evenings will come alive with music and entertainment. Audiences can look forward to captivating performances by local artistes under the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (MGMP), along with music concerts on both days featuring well-known bands and artistes from the region, promising an electrifying atmosphere and memorable winter evenings.

The festival will also provide a strong platform for livelihood promotion and local entrepreneurship. Stalls set up by various government departments and agencies will showcase products crafted by local farmers, artisans, self-help groups, and entrepreneurs.
