Shillong, Jan 27: The security situation along inter-state border with Assam, specifically at Maikhuli in Ri-Bhoi district, has improved significantly, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong told reporters on Tuesday.
“Right from that time, we constituted regional committees from both sides of the states, and we could see lots of improvement,” Tynsong said while referring to a dispute over erection of electric polls.
Residents from Assam had initially opposed the erection of electric poles in the area, but a peace committee comprising villagers resolved the issue, allowing the project to proceed.
“Now everything is resolved and even the erection of the electric poles is allowed by Assam,” Tynsong said.
On the Rajabala incident where an activist died after being assaulted, the deputy chief minister said the situation is currently calm and peaceful.
“We instructed the deputy commissioner to have a peace committee over there, and right now, nothing has happened,” he added.
According to him, more than six people have been arrested, and the law will take its course.
