NPP unit urges Govt to set up police outposts, anti-dacoity camp at Ranikor
Shillong, Aug 19: In the wake of attacks by Bangladeshi miscreants in border villages, the Ranikor Block Unit of National People’s Party (NPP) has urged the state government to set up police outposts and anti-dacoity (AD) camp in vulnerable areas under Ranikor subdivision in South West Khasi Hills district.
The NPP unit took the decision to urge the government to deploy the additional security forces after conducting visits to the affected villages and meeting with village headmen, elders, and civil societies.
“The villagers are feeling insecure, and the situation is becoming increasingly dire,” stated a memorandum submitted by the NPP unit to deputy chief minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong on Monday.
Stating that around 30 villages are affected by attacks from Bangladeshi miscreants, the NPP unit has sought establishment of police outposts at Khonjoy and Maheskola and an AD camp at Rongdanggai.
These measures, the party believes, would help to mitigate the threat posed by the militant groups and provide a sense of security to the villagers, said the NPP unit president, Nelbi T Sangma.
He said the situation is such that the villagers had to take turns to guard their homes at night.
The party unit also urged the deputy chief minister to visit the area or send a minister or MLA from the Garo community to understand the problems faced by the villagers.
