JNC lauds EHJ police for Ahmedabad rescue

Shillong, March 24: The Jaintia National Council (JNC) has thanked East Jaintia Hills police for rescuing a missing Wapung Chnong woman from Ahmedabad.

The woman disappeared on March 15, 2026, JNC filed an FIR on 19 March after her mother sought help. Police traced her in Gujarat and repatriated her this week.

“We express sincere appreciation… for swift and effective action,” JNC said, also thanking Sutnga‑Saipung MLA Santa Mary Shylla for assistance.

Vice‑President Nangjan Dkhar, however, called the incident symptomatic.

“The Government has consistently failed to address sustainable employment for our youths. If proper job policies and reservation systems were in place, our young people would not have to migrate and face such risks.”

He urged local youth to verify jobs before leaving Meghalaya, and parents to remain vigilant.

Under its “Save Jaintia Mission,” JNC has demanded job reservations in the private and industrial sectors for locals. “If this had been honored, incidents like this could have been prevented,” Dkhar said.
