Baghmara, Oct 24: Meghalaya Governor C.H Vijayashankar unveiled the foundation stone plague for a new office complex of the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner’s Office at Baghmara on Thursday. The event was conducted in a virtual mode after bad weather from the cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal prevented the governor’s helicopter from taking off in Shillong.
The Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma, Chokpot MLA Sengchim N Sangma and a host of dignitaries attended the programme at Baghmara Circuit House. Governor C H Vijayashankar lamented the cancellation of his tour to the region on account of the inclement weather. However, he expressed optimism that with the laying of the foundation stone for the new deputy commissioner’s office complex the people of South Garo Hills District would benefit immensely.
He thanked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Education Minister Rakkam Sangma for their efforts to bring the district forward by sanctioning the much-needed DC office Building. Education Minister Rakkam Sangma expressed his gratitude to the Governor for laying the foundation stone. He also thanked Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for sanctioning the amount of Rs.14,98,59,577/- for this project.
He informed that this was a fulfilment of a long pending wish of the people of South Garo Hills, which is after 32 years of being a separate District. He further urged the people of South Garo Hills District to support and stand up together to make things happen for the benefit of the District.
During the program, interaction with civil society organizations and Nokma Association of South Garo Hills also took place. The distribution of Cheques loan under MSRLS (NRLM) from MCAB amounting Rs 106,50,000/- and cheques for 40 numbers of SHG’S under Rongara Block amounting to Rs.60,50,000/- for Rongara C& R Block, cheques for 38 no’s of SHG’s amounting to Rs.46,00,000/- were also handed over to
the beneficiaries by the minister.
