Shillong, Oct 8: BJP chief spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang has welcomed the state government’s decision to abolish interviews for Grade IV posts, citing it as a step towards bringing transparency in the recruitment process.
Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, Kharkrang expressed his appreciation for the government’s move, stating that it is a positive step towards ensuring fairness in the selection process.
“We hope that this decision will be implemented across all departments and there will be no more interviews for Grade IV posts,” he added.
The government has issued a notification in this regard, and the BJP spokesperson expects all departments to adhere to the new policy.
Party ‘well-prepared’ for GHADC polls
The BJP will be contesting the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) which will be held next year.
Kharkrang said his party is well-prepared and has almost completed setting up its mandals and has been working towards the next elections right after the completion of the previous poll.
“Our groundwork is an ongoing process, and we don’t wait for the elections to be around the corner to start working,” he said.
Regarding the government’s decision to pay salaries to ADC employees, Kharkrang expressed concerns that the district councils may have apprehensions about the government’s intentions.
“If the government wants to help the district councils, they should clarify their stance on allegations that they plan to take over the ADCs,” he said.
Kharkrang emphasized that unless these concerns are addressed, it would be challenging to move forward.
Report on illegal coal mining
When questioned about the report’s status during the news conference, Kharkrang deferred to the fact-finding committee chairman, Bernard N Marak, saying, “You have to ask the chairman… he will be able to explain.”
Kharkrang added that as a member, he wasn’t in a position to comment further.
Despite receiving the report from its fact-finding committee on alleged illegal coal mining in Meghalaya, the state BJP has yet to make it public.
State President Rikman G Momin announced on May 22 that the report had been received and assured that it would be disclosed at an appropriate time.
The committee, formed on February 11, was tasked with investigating the issue.
Led by Convener Bernard R Marak and Secretary Mariahom Kharkrang, the committee comprises eight members.
